Delo Lindo: France’s dynamic design duo

They say the French are connoisseurs when it comes to food, fashion, the art of lovemaking, and design. The tandem that makes up Delo Lindo is an example of this, well, in the design category as far as we know.

Let’s take a quick look at Fabien Cagani and Laurent Matras, who created Delo Lindo in 1985. Both were born in 1961, Cagani in Paris and Matras in Strasbourg. They earned their interior architecture diplomas at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs de Paris. Both are now living and working in Paris, where in addition to doing design work, they also teach at the l’ecole des Beaux Arts de Reims et Saint Etienne.

The quality of their work and their innovative ideas has kept them busy over the years. Delo Lindo were responsible for designing furniture for the Ile de France’s National Orchestra in 1997. The textiles fair Expofil has benefited over the years from their design of trend forums. They collaborated in 1998 and 2003 with the Craft Centre for Ceramics for the creation of door handle collections for Merigous. They’re also the brains behind the design of furniture for the Parc Naturel Regional de Lorraine.

Their work, which includes furniture and furnishings like deck chairs, contemporary bistro chairs, other types of chairs, lampshades, doorknobs, and many more have won them various awards, some of which are:

  • Prize winner of the Fiacre Competition in 1994
  • 1993 Grand Prix International Press Award on Contemporary Furniture Design
  • Batimat 1997 Golden Trophy of Design
  • 2000 Award Biennale de Saint Etienne

Apart from their professional work, Cagani and Matras have held and participated in a number of trade shows and exhibitions, one of the most recent being a show titled “Objectar,” which was held in 2003 in Barcelona, Spain. Delo Lindo’s work certainly continue to influence today’s interior design and architecture world.
