When I think of a hammock, I think of being on the beach, a cool drink in hand, enjoying the breeze, listening to the waves crashing on the shore. It boggles my mind a bit how the Ola Rune Mono Chair came to be inspired by a hammock. And to think the chair was designed for the office environment – to promote stress-free meetings. I guess that’s the correlation between a real hammock and this chair, to get the user to relax.
It was designed by Ola Rune and manufactured by OFFECCT. While it’s true that the office market is the chair’s primary audience, I can see it doing well as part of a bar furniture set too. Reclining on the chair, a drink in hand, talking with friends and relaxing, yes, it would be most suitable. It can also be placed in a hotel setting or in a café; it looks to be pretty versatile that way.
The Mono chair is part of OFFECCT’s MONO collection. According to the information provided by Bonluxat, the Mono chairs are more lightweight than the other pieces in the MONO set, yet it stays true to the collection’s theme by still having the looping frame from which the seat hangs. And that’s a major component of the design. The object is to make the user feel that he or she is suspended in space. Somehow, I don’t think people who are afraid of heights will be enjoying this experience, even though they aren’t that far up when sitting in this chair.
The chair’s seat is made of laminated plywood that comes in natural birch, stained, or lacquered finishes. The metal runners are of chrome or lacquered metal. Sounds sturdy, much, much sturdier than your regular hammock.
